Understanding Satin Fabric

The characteristics of the fabric determine the peculiarities of its care, and depending on the fabric's properties, the washing and ironing temperature is selected. Satin is pleasant to the touch, gently fits the skin, and emphasizes the natural lines of the figure. Firstly, satin is a very smooth material. This is achieved by double weaving of threads. Of course, this feature strongly affects the peculiarities of care for the fabric. Secondly, besides smoothness, satin is breathable, durable, hypoallergenic, and durable with no shrinkage.

Satin is characterized by the fact that it has a different surface on the front and back sides. The underside is slightly rough and matte, and the front part is shiny and satin. This is due to the special sateen weave: a shiny front thread is woven into every fourth wrong side thread. Also, satin comes in different shades of luster. For example, mercerization (treatment with sodium hydroxide) gives the fabric a moderate shine and increases strength, stability and durability. Calendering, on the other hand, gives the fabric a more intense luster. In this case, the material is rolled between heated calendar rolls. The fabric acquires a luxurious luster, but after each washing, it gradually decreases.

Features of the fabric:

- High strength and wear resistance.
- Preservation of aesthetic appearance for a long time. With proper care, the fabric does not stretch and does not fade.
- It absorbs moisture and is used to sew a variety of clothes.
- It retains its shape, does not shrink, and drapes perfectly.
- It does not electrify or cause allergies.
- Satin is a rather heavy fabric whose untreated edges quickly crumble. Depending on the type of threads, there are satins of different density and quality.

Washing satin is mandatory. If you do not perform cleaning, the fabric will very quickly disrepair; according to this parameter, the material can be compared with cotton. Washing satin can be entrusted to the machine, and you can wash it with your hands. Correct care guarantees perfect preservation of satin for many years. Satin is not only comfortable but also a stylish material that emphasizes its owner's refined taste and high status.

How to Machine Wash Satin?

➡️Before throwing the laundry into the machine, it must be prepared. The order of actions is as follows:
- Turn inside out all products that will be washed.
- Check the presence of all buttons and fasteners. If they are torn, do not wash the thing, as the situation will worsen even more.
- Throw only satin clothes into the drum. Wash items made of other fabrics separately.

You can wash satin often - a durable material that withstands 300+ washes.

➡️Selecting the temperature and mode
Articles made of satin can be washed at a temperature of 40-60 degrees; detailed information about the care of the thing can be read on the tag. It is better to choose the "Delicate" mode, as it is best suited for sateen linen. You can set an additional rinse and a higher temperature to remove serious dirt.

➡️What detergent to choose
In the case of washing satin, the choice is not limited - you can use both traditional solid powders and gels. We believe it is better to prefer gels, which are much better dissolved in water without leaving traces of household chemicals on the fabric. This is very important in bed linen, as prolonged skin contact with the remaining powder particles can cause rashes and allergies.

➡️Spin
It is better not to set the number of revolutions to a value higher than 600. Satin can survive even harsher treatment, but it is better to save the fabric and not to take risks. You can wash without spinning, but then the laundry will have to be done by hand.

If things made of satin are washed at higher temperatures, do not adhere to the recommendations regarding the choice of powder, and squeeze products in the machine, they will deform. Clothing can stretch, give shrinkage, and lose its original color.

Washing Satin by Hand

To keep satin clothes in their original state for a long time, it is recommended to wash them by hand. Such washing will allow you to avoid damaging the products and gently remove impurities. For the most qualitative cleaning of things, follow the steps:

- If there are pockets, check if there are no foreign objects left in them;
- Soak the satin products for 10-15 minutes in water with a small amount of dissolved powder; rinse the garment thoroughly; do not rub, wring or twist it; - After straightening the folds, hang the item on a rope or place it out of direct sunlight.
- White or pastel-colored items should be washed only with liquid detergents, as granular powders can cause yellow stains that are very difficult to remove.

How to Remove Stains from Satin?

Simply answering the question of how to wash satin may not be enough. It is important to understand how to remove stains from it before washing.

If there are stains on the satin fabric , then it is necessary to use a special stain remover for satin when washing. It is applied to the contamination with a finger for some time, and then - start the usual washing.

However, the method may be ineffective since the stain dried up. To avoid such negative consequences, you can try to remove stains from satin fabrics immediately, especially until they are absorbed into the fabric. When you notice the stain, blot it with a lint-free material. This way, you can take on some of the contaminants. It's a bad idea to rub the stain because this way, it will be absorbed into the fabric faster, and it will be extremely difficult to get it out.

If we talk about greasy stains, then they should be sprinkled with flour or starch. They will be able to take some of the pollution on themselves. It is appropriate to soak other stains in a weak vinegar solution. After that, you can wash in the usual way: in a washing machine with a stain remover.

Several stains can not be removed independently. However, this is not a reason to abandon or throw the thing away. You can contact a dry cleaner with a request to remove the stain. Specialists will do their job well, and you will get a renewed and high-quality thing.

How to Iron Satin?

Can I iron satin with an iron? Yes, it is necessary to do this because satin things are quickly crumpled. After washing, you can put things in the closet, which will be irrevocably spoiled because of the creases.

Ironing is necessary through gauze or dense fabric, such as cotton. But steaming should not be used, and iron should be held for a long time in one place. So you risk making stains on things and "burn" it. Remember to iron satin things from the underside to not spoil their appearance.

The iron's soleplate should not be maximally heated; using modes for delicate fabrics is better. The temperature should be about 140-150 ° C so as not to damage the thing.

With long use of satin, things can appear in weasel compartments or weasels, which spoil the impression of satin clothes. To remove weasels, it is necessary to use vinegar 9%. To do this, you must soak a gauze, squeeze out the moisture from it, put the gauze between the iron and the lasses, and then treat the area.
