My mum is my biggest role model and she is my epitome of female strength. To me, female strength signifies being able to overcome any adversities you may encounter. Seeing her stand back up even when she is defeated has shaped my view of women’s empowerment.

I learn from my mistakes and do better next time. I don’t dwell in the past and try to become a better person. I never let who I am stop me from becoming who I want to become.

I’m really proud to be a woman in STEM. I am pursuing a PhD in mathematics education and it feels so empowering to be able to do this.

Nowadays it’s complicated to talk about different gender roles. As the woman is now working like men, I think women and men really share tasks in everyday life. When it comes to daily chores in a house, children’s education. Men are more and more involved in all those kinds of things. And it’s very nice to see it has evolved so good in the past 20-30 years.

I often wear this total look Goelia. This everyday jacket can be worn as well for working appointments and for going out with my friends. Love also the shirt and the jean. This all look also gives an iconic boyish style I am in love with! But we are still women so mixing it with a classy bag and a pair of heels, it gives it an elegant touch!

Inner beauty can be described as having good attitudes and manner, being respectfully to everyone and always have positive attitute towards life.

I would like to celebrate my mom's great strength. When my two older brothers were small, she also had to look after my dearest grandmother, who needed constant help. Meanwhile, she worked and never let us lack anything; she always managed to do everything with love and willpower.

She always taught us children respect for others (my brothers especially respect for women) and education, as well as always encouraged us not to give up in the face of the many difficulties that one may occasionally encounter. I own a commercial plumbing company. There are already very few women in this industry, and even fewer who are in charge. I get my personal strength from knowing women are just as important as men in this industry and that we are the future!

I am always so impressed when I meet young women who are entering this trade. I think it is super important to empower each other, give opportunities, and mentor others in the industry. I am from Guatemala, but moved to Italy three years ago. Moving to Italy was more than a decision, it was a challenge. Soon after graduating from my bachelor’s in pharmaceutical chemistry, I applied to every single available scholarship to study cosmetics chemistry abroad. I ended up having two offers. After thinking it through very well, I chose my preferred scholarship program, and with that, I chose the next chapter of my life. I moved to Italy in the middle of a pandemic, leaving everyone and everything I’ve ever known to pursue my dream of studying abroad in the hopes of one day starting my own skincare company, and give my family a better life.

2021 was the last time I saw my family and it weights me every day, but so far, I have graduated with the highest scores, got offered a job before graduating, i’ve taken part in several makeup development projects for an italian cosmetic manufacturer, held lessons regarding cosmetics in my guatemalan alma mater, and found love. I come from a developing country, I have faced violence, many challenges and fears, which led me to become who I am today, a woman who is not afraid of anything and aims for more every single day. My story is much more than this but i want to close with a message: no matter your backgound, no matter where you are from, study hard, work harder, believe in yourself like no other, and you, my girl, will go far. I should know, I ended up half the world away from where I thought I was going to be my whole life

We live in a society that tells us, women who and what we are and how we are to be.

As we celebrate the theme Women's Empowerment, we must remember our identity. Our identity is who we believe we are individually, knowing our strengths and weaknesses, our likes and dislikes, and owning our past, present and our future. In doing so, we do not allow someone else to tells us who we are and who we should be, because we are so aware of ourselves that we accept ourselves and we exercise choice to be the best woman each of us can be. We are not confined to anyone's small box of limitations. We are mothers, daughters, grandmothers, professionals, leaders, motivators and warriors. We are strong, as well as compassionate and kind, we are beautiful and also smart.

We may fall, but we still rise and thrive. Anything we touch, we multiply, creating greatness all around us and within us.

It was the day of the photoshoot for my LinkedIn profile picture, the one that would accompany resumes and motivation letters for the new chapter of my life: the internship abroad.

My life will never be the same after that one picture, after that one outfit - as the persistent urge to make the dream come true, started at this point! I would never imagine that I would dress up for a photo. But till this day, it's the most important photoshoot of my life.
