如何清潔素皮?

經過 Shunzhi Nie 06 Oct 2024

Vegan leather can be easily cleaned by washing the products with mild soap and warm water. Clean after a few uses or when stains appear. It takes very little mild soap and water to remove stains. Even vegan leather-lined garments can often be cleaned at home. Read the care label, as some linings cannot be machine washed. Wash vegan leather garments, including jackets and pants, by hand or on the delicate cycle in cold or warm water with a mild detergent. Never use hot water as this can cause shrinkage. Also, drying on high heat can cause artificial leather to delaminate and harsh cleaning chemicals can ruin the material. To dry, wipe the garment to remove excess water and allow it to air dry. Follow these instructions to wash vegan leather items at home, including your favorite vegan leather jacket, pants or shoes, purses, and boots.

Vegan leather jackets , leggings, or skirts can usually be hand or machine-washed. The key to success is to use the correct water temperature, detergent, and gentle agitation. If the label on your garment says “hand wash only,” follow these instructions to avoid damaging it. When machine washing clothes, place them in a mesh laundry bag for extra protection and reduce the speed of the last spin cycle to minimize creasing.

1. Use cool or warm water

Turn on the washing machine or fill the sink with cool or warm water. Never use hot water, which may deform or melt vegan leather.

2. Choose a gentle detergent

For vegan leather, it is best to use a mild detergent. When washing by hand, add detergent to the water and rub with your hand to distribute it evenly.

3. Turn the garment inside out

Vegan leather is usually the most soiled on the inside of the garment due to body oils. When machine washing in a mesh bag or hand washing by hand, turn the garment inside out so that the detergent and water solution can easily reach the inside surface.

4. Use gentle agitation

· If hand washing, rinse the garment in water and gently wring it out. Allow it to soak for five minutes.

· If machine washing, select the delicate spin mode in the washing machine and reduce the spin speed on the last cycle.

5. Rinse with cool water

Rinse any hand-washed clothes in cool water until no lather remains. Excess detergent left on vegan leather can cause it to harden and crack. Do not wring. Always rinse in the washing machine with cold water. Do not add fabric softener.

6. Vegan leather for air drying

· Never place vegan leather in the dryer. Hang jackets inside out on a sturdy hanger and allow them to dry. Skirts and pants can either be hung or dried on absorbent towels. Drying can take up to 24 hours.

· Turn dried items flat frequently.

· Wipe clothes with a soft absorbent microfiber cloth to speed up drying time.

7. Treat it with oil

When the garment is dry, apply a small amount of baby oil, olive oil, or coconut oil to a soft cloth to care for the vegan leather. This will keep the vegan leather supple, prevent cracking and peeling, and help remove wrinkles.

What is vegan leather?

Vegan leather is the same as synthetic leather; it is made from plastic or vinyl whose texture and color mimic genuine leather. Vegan leather is less durable than natural leather, which can last for decades. Vegan leather can last several years if well cared for before the treated surface begins to peel or crack.

· Vinyl-based vegan leather: Vinyl-based vegan leather is more flexible but less breathable, suitable for more than just clothing. Vegan leather is essentially the same as vinyl, but the vinyl used to make artificial leather is treated with other plastic materials to give the fabric a more leathery appearance.

· Plastic-based vegan leather: Clothing is usually made from polyurethane-based vegan leather (also called vegan leather or pleather, meaning “plastic skin”), which is more breathable. The process involves applying a polymer substance to the backing fabric and giving it the appearance of leather.

Vegan leather garments should only be washed after use or when they have become dirty. If your garment develops a slight odor or stains after wear, it is time for gentle washing.

Vegan leather bags and accessories can be washed as needed or about once a month, as can vegan leather furniture. These items should be cleaned when stains appear so they don't stay for long.

Most stains from vegan leather can be removed with a microfiber cloth dampened with warm water. For stains that are difficult to remove, apply a small amount of mild detergent to the cloth and gently rub the stain.

To remove ink stains or dye transfer stains from vegan leather, blot the area with a soft cloth or cotton swab containing a small amount of isopropyl alcohol. Work from the outer edge of the stain to the center to prevent the stain from getting bigger. After removing the stain, wipe the area with a cloth dampened with normal water.

Excessive exposure to sunlight can fade your vegan leather products. Reduce fading by storing vegan leather in a dark place when not in use (such as a clean closet or dresser drawer).

Vegan leather is prone to shrinkage during washing. To prevent shrinkage, use only cold water when cleaning vegan leather clothing and accessories. Air dry the material in a medium-temperature room, avoiding drying in the sun on hot days.

Vegan leather can retain persistent odors such as cigarette smoke, sweat, or cooking smells. But these odors can be easily removed by taking some time and adding baking soda. Sprinkle baking soda on the inside and outside of your clothes. Put it in a large airtight plastic bag or tub and wait 24 hours. Remove the garment and brush off the baking soda. Remove the last traces with a soft cloth dampened with plain water. Repeat if odors remain.

In most cases, wrinkles in vegan leather will smooth out during the drying process. If a piece of clothing is badly wrinkled, turn it inside out. Place a wringing cloth over the garment and use the lowest heat setting on the iron to remove creases. Do not leave the iron in one place for too long or it will melt. It cannot be repaired.

Store vegan leather clothing and accessories in a cool, dark place. Do not place folded items in full drawers; wrinkles may form if the item is stacked tightly between other clothing. Store vegan leather bags and accessories flat in a closet, stuffing them with paper or other materials to keep their shape.

Types of vegan leather

Pineapple leaf leather

The developer of pineapple leaf leather is Irish designer Carmen Hiesa. has developed a leather made from pineapple leaves. The material looks interesting on the outside, very textured and I find it a bit rough to the touch. In addition to biodegradable elements - natural fibers and polylactic acid - the composition includes petroleum products, but as they write, “the company is still in search of an environmentally friendly durable material”. Pinatex has already been touted by brands. Already on the market, you can find shoes, bags, accessories, interior items, and even clothes made of this material. The color range is not very diverse yet - beige, brown, and charcoal.

Grape skin

Another variant of such a biomaterial, derived from the peel and seeds of grapes, was proposed by Vegea, an Italian startup born in 2016 in Milan. Well, where but in Italy, invented to use grapes, for the production of vegan leather. The material is produced thanks to a special treatment of fibers and oils contained in the skin, seeds, and stems of grapes obtained during the production of wine. A lot of wine - a lot of leather, even given the estimated figures. Each year, from the production of 26 billion liters of wine, 7 billion kilograms of waste material are produced - this would allow Vegea to produce about 3 billion square meters of leather. A shoe company has already produced sneakers in collaboration with Vegea.

Mushroom skin

It is a kind of vegan leather made from mycelium, the dense root structure of mushrooms. By growing mushroom mycelium in different conditions of humidity and temperature, and then subjecting it to tanning, artist Phil Ross and his team create a material with different textures of natural leathers (cattle, reptiles, ostrich, etc.) According to the author of the project, thanks to chitin, which contains cells of mushroom mycelium, Mycoworks is slower to undergo natural biological decomposition. Since the material is grown, it is already in the process of growth it can be made various manipulations - to add a zipper or a button. Many luxury brands are already working with such material. Mushroom mycelium is also used by Ecovative, which “grows” almost everything, from food to furniture.
