Add Unique Vitality to Suitcases
Curator Ben introduced, "In the oldest tradition, travel is the process of discovering species. Species are the basic units of organisms. Different species produce specific fibers through their unique life synthesis pathways. The characteristics of these fibers are closely related to their functions in nature and their ability to adapt to the environment. Every tiny or diverse composition, every long or short walk, every heavy or light load, is a perfection of the worldview."
The exhibition hopes to advocate instinctive walking and exploration through the artistic expression of the new generation, giving the suitcase a different kind of life tension.
Feel the Interweaving of Imagination and Handcrafts
Goelia invited students from the Department of Dyeing & Weaving Art Design, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art to use Goelia’s suitcases as carriers. They are inspired by nature, local culture and travel memories. Throughout their work, they share their views on the relationship between humans and nature.
Guan Shang's work "The Journey of Seeds" is inspired by the spread of plant seeds. She uses various fabrics such as stuffing cotton, aluminum wire, quilted cotton, to show the continuation of life and the journey of tenacious exploration through the growth of seeds. Seeds carrying hope take root in the suitcase, and with the passage of time and space, they bloom miracles in the new soil with the power of nature. She intends to tell the audience that the journey is not only a physical migration, but also a spiritual journey and cultural sowing.
Zhou Keer's work "Perched on a Branch" combines glossy black cockatoo, the only endangered subspecies on Kangaroo Island, with xiangyun silk, and uses relief to show a parrot perching on a branch. "Perched on a Branch" is not only a frozen picture of the parrot, but also a warning for people to pay attention to this endangered species, provide it with a habitat, and call on people to protect nature and animals.
In Liu Jinglei's work "Walk Through", the suitcase is transformed into a book, with the front side depicting a green wonderland during the day, and the back side showing the bright stars in the night sky. The author uses materials such as xiangyun silk, quilted cotton, and through patchwork techniques, combines "green wonderland" and "starry sky". Turning pages makes people feel like embarking on a wonderful journey, traveling through time and space, experiencing the alternation of day and night, and the changes of heaven and earth.
Rong Yixiang's work "Dot & Spiral" is inspired by Australian Aboriginal art. He uses natural dyes and hand-woven ropes to cleverly wrap the suitcase, presenting unique totem patterns, integrating nature and humanity and becoming a bridge of cultural heritage, which allows Australian Aboriginal art to be spread around the world with travel footprints.
Ma Ke's work "Fragrant Morning" is inspired by coffee, which is made from wool felt. He uses a detachable design to present the theme of "French Breakfast" on the surface of the suitcase. Coffee is of great significance to travelers, and coffee shops are a window into foreign life. The author hopes that this suitcase can bring inspiration and vitality to people every time they travel, so that they can enjoy the journey in the aroma of coffee.
Wu Xinyu's work "Scenery on the Road" is inspired by people's stops during the journey. They use cameras to freeze beautiful scenery that they may never see again. The design of the work aims to capture memories through the camera, and let the photos become the witness of the journey of life so that the images carry stories and leave small and precious memories in the vast world.
They condensed their imaginative journeys into Goelia's suitcases. And the suitcases will eventually carry their aspirations to various distant places as Goelia travels the world.
Goelia's first exhibition in 2025, "A Journey of Species", uses suitcases as a medium to deeply integrate the artistic ingenuity of the new generation with the brand's global spirit and fashion concept, which is a wonderful gift for the brand's 30th anniversary. In the future, Goelia will carry countless "baggage" full of vitality and create more new chapters of nature and fashion on our global journey.
