Faux fur is in the closet of almost every person. However, not everyone knows how to care for them properly. Can they be washed in a machine or a basin? Answers to these and other questions can be obtained after reading the article.

The trend to abandon natural fur in favor of faux fur has taken over the world. More and more fashion houses are releasing collections of faux furs that look no worse than natural. At the same time, it is much easier to care for such coats than for natural ones. We tell you whether you can wash an artificial fur coat in a washing machine or whether it is better to choose another way of cleaning. Ecoshubes are becoming increasingly popular, and the quality of faux fur has grown so much that sometimes it is difficult to distinguish it from natural fur. Nevertheless, the rules of care for faux fur are significantly different. In this material, we will tell you whether you can wash a faux fur coat and how to care for it.

Stylish and affordable things from faux fur firmly occupy the first positions in producing clothing from synthetic fabrics. Almost everyone in the house will find at least one product from this material: fur coat, handbag, hat, and even plaid. Many owners are concerned about how to clean and wash clothes made of faux fur to preserve the fabric's structure and not spoil your favorite thing. Observing simple rules, it is possible to cope with washing fur garments at home without resorting to dry cleaning services.

How to Wash Faux Fur in the Washing Machine?

Machine washing is acceptable for faux fur products with a short, dense pile. Before loading things into the machine, it is necessary to read the manufacturer's information on the label about the care requirements for this fur product and the possibility of automatic washing. When cleaning a faux fur product in the machine, you should adhere to several rules:

- To begin with, it is necessary to rid the faux fur coat of dust. It is best to do this not in the apartment but on the street. Hang the product on the shoulders and carefully, without diligence, knock it out with a bamboo stick, a "knocker" for carpets, or a soft brush.

- Cleaned from dust, soak the faux fur coat in a basin of warm water for 15-20 minutes, having previously added a gel for delicate washing. The main thing is not to overdo it. This step is not required if the washing machine has a pre-soaking mode.

- If you need to wash white faux fur, then before immersing it in a soapy solution, you must soak a soft sponge in water with lemon juice and treat the fur surface with it.

- Turn the product with the fluffy part inside. This rule suits products with fabric lining; in other cases, skip this step. If possible, place the faux fur coat in a special mesh bag. This measure will maximize the integrity of the pile.

- After loading, do not put additional items in the drum; the faux fur should be washed separately from the rest of the clothes. This step will protect the pile from damage. If you need to wash the hood or collar, it is better to detach the parts and process them separately from the jacket.

- Set the washing machine recommended by the manufacturer and add a mild detergent and fabric rinse agent; it will soften the material - faux fur and the subsequent actions will be less traumatic for the fibers.

- You should choose detergents suitable for washing delicate fabrics, silk or wool . At the end of the program, take the product out of the machine's drum and shake it gently.

- After soaking, load the faux fur garment into the machine and wash it in the delicate fabrics mode at a water temperature of no more than 40°C.

- The item should be wrung out at the lowest speed or manually.

- Be sure to turn off the spin; otherwise, the faux fur may be damaged during washing.

- When washing is finished, remove the faux fur coat from the machine, carefully hang it on the shoulders, and leave it to drain.

How to Hand-Wash Faux Fur?

Long-pile faux fur can only be washed by hand, while short-pile materials can also be machine-washed. If you wash your fur coat by hand, the first step is like machine washing.

Then, soak the item completely in water with liquid powder. Be careful: faux fur is a rather delicate fabric. Gently wipe the product with your hand or a soft brush, paying special attention to the bottom, pockets, sleeves, and the inside of the collar. In no case do not rub the fur with force.

If you need to wash a small-sized item, such as a hat, mittens, collar, or hood, proceed as follows. In a container of suitable size, pour not very hot water, the temperature of which should be no more than 40 ° C, and add liquid soap or gel. It is not recommended to use dry detergents or soaps with active chemical additives, as they can spoil the structure of the pile. As a last resort, if the household found only washing powder, it should be separated from large particles and thoroughly dissolved in water. Before washing a voluminous product, for example, a faux fur coat or vest, for which any basin will be small, you can make a soap solution in the bathtub.

Next, the faux fur clothes should be soaked for 25-30 minutes, after which you should gently rub the pile with your hands or a soft brush, paying special attention to heavily soiled places: sleeves, collar, pockets, bottom of the product.

After washing, the faux fur should be carefully combed. Rinse the faux fur in a large amount of water, then warm and cool. Before wringing the product, you must take it out of the water and, putting it on some kind of stand, let the bulk of the liquid drain away. After that, it is necessary to blot several times with a towel, in no case twisting the material.

It is better to dry clothes on the shoulders, away from heating radiators. After drying, the faux fur can be combed with rounded teeth. Do not start washing large bulky items, such as a plaid, if the pollution occupies a small area. Removing a few spots with a gauze swab soaked in soap solution is much easier.

Treating Stains on Faux Fur

If you want to get rid of a dirty stain on faux fur, proceed as follows:
1. Prepare warm water (0.5 liters) and dissolve in any laundry detergent (two tablespoons).
2. Gently rub the liquid into the product using a sponge.
3. Gently rub the liquid into the product using a sponge. Move from the edges to the middle.
4. Remove dirt and detergent with a sponge. If necessary, carry out the procedure again.
5. Dry the thing. The temperature should be room temperature.
6. When most of the dirt is removed, wait for it to dry and gently remove it using a brush.

If you can't get rid of the dirty stain, remove it with gasoline:
1. It must be clean; otherwise, it will leave streaks on the faux fur. To check how clean the solvent is, drop it on the paper. It should dry.
2. Wet a clean cotton cloth or cotton swab with the solvent. Squeeze the material to maximize dryness. Gently wipe the swab over the faux fur and remove the dirt. So clean cuffs, collars.
3. In some cases, purified gasoline and an absorbent agent are applied to the pile. The grease is removed by the solvent and absorbed by the absorbent. The gasoline is added to the absorbent.
4. Apply the resulting semi-liquid mixture to the stain, leave it on for a while, and allow it to dry.
5. Then scrub it off using a brush.

How Do I Make My Faux Fur Fluffy Again?

Your faux fur will naturally lose its fleece over time as the individual fibers stick together and clump together. This is mainly due to dirt or moisture particles. Therefore, the first thing you can do is to shake the faux fur to remove the dirt from the fur and make it fall out. You can afford to do this fairly regularly as part of the maintenance of your item. Another important tip is to avoid getting moisture on your fur if possible. To do this, check the weather forecast before you head out and, more importantly, store your faux fur in a dark and dry place. Having done everything you can to protect your faux fur, the next step is to bring a brush.

Dry the coat if the faux fur has stuck together after being caught in rain or wet snow. Only do it not over the radiator or fireplace, but hanging the coat on a hanger at room temperature. Before doing this, it should be shaken well. High temperature is contraindicated for drying natural fur. Under the influence of hot air, it is deformed and loses its luster, and the furs are over-dried and can shrink. If the faux fur is soaked, it is better not to experiment and not try to dry it at home. It is better to take your coat to a specialized atelier, where experts know how to fluff and what to do for this.

How to Store Faux Fur Clothing?

Like any other warm seasonal clothing, a jacket or faux fur coat spends more than half a year in the closet. If the thing is not for one season, it is important to provide it with the right storage conditions so that in the fall, with the first cold weather, you will not be disappointed in its appearance.

What you need to do:
- Before putting the faux fur in storage, it should be washed, and after drying, it should be treated with moth repellent. Put dry orange or lemon slices in the closet - this should deter the pest. Don't forget to check the cupboard beforehand - what if the moth is already waiting for a tasty treat? Clean and air it out to expel all unwanted "guests."

- Never fold faux fur vests or coats in stacks; do not roll up rolls - you will inevitably crumple the pile. It is better to immediately wear a ready-made jacket and walk without fiddling with straightening. With plaids, folding is impossible to avoid, but then the creases can be easily corrected with water. It's not difficult. It just takes time. Try to fold the oversized thing as few times as possible.

- Hang the faux fur clothes on the shoulders, comb them, and pack them in a special case so that it does not come into contact with other clothes in the closet, do not lose, and do not crumple the "fur." Putting the plaid in a paper bag separately from other items is a good idea.
